Gentle arms erelong
Compass the belly
Eftsoons give way
To cradle the fruit
In a quiet place
Appetency the breast
Upon the cheek
Dost turn the head
And assay to eat
To a soothing coo
A smile dost overbrim
Whispered is the name
The womb once preserved
A breath of rhymes
Sanative and sweet
Will lullaby
To tender sleep
A crib the bedlam
Until awake
Supple moves
Try not to quake
Sped to the breast
While mother endures
And swinks to rest
As peace is restored
Mother and infant
Slumber once more
I am dedicating this poem to my friend, Melissa. Thank you for everything and congratulations on the little princess.
