What a sensation
Written so glibly
Everything I could ask for
Nothing I need to know
The front-page headline
Really catches my eye
A dog named hero
Who saved the day
And past the price I had to pay
By the date on the front page
I turn to a colored photo
A politician needs my vote
With a featured article
Telling me what I need to know
Then on to editorial hyperbole
Objective reports and perspectives
Followed by a poignant cartoon
Draws up a visual description
Of conviction and addiction
Several letters to the editor
About home remedies
And homeopathic ways
Large advertisements that say
I must buy one today!
Take and additional 20% off
But only in the month of May
The business section I skipped
Looks like commerce took a slip
Then it’s resources and statistics
Health, beauty, and religion
But before I jump ship
To the last page I flip
Silence for those who have tried
And now that their life has died
Will have their final moment inside
The newspaper forever black and white
Love your deft slant rhyme!
...& how charming an invitation you offer! My topic of choice for you, J: a fireplace inside a home buried in an icy storm!
